News and game summaries from a life-long North Carolina Basketball fan(atic)

UNC Stat of the Day:

It's official: Carolina is losing SEVEN from this year's team
I just watched the press conference. Despite my (apparently unfounded) optimistism earlier in the week, Felton, May, and Marvin Williams declared their eligibility for the NBA draft. They don't have agents yet, but they are looking. It is a done deal.

That means we are losing our top 7 players from this year's National Championship team (3 seniors and 4 underclassman). I know, I know, it is best for the players. It would have been difficult for the four underclassman to improve their draft status with another year. They won a national championship already. We appreciate the time they gave us and they will be missed dearly.

Next year's team is going to be a massive rebuilding effort. Coach Williams said he could sign 3 more players for next year's team but he is doubtful he can find 3 that would be good enough to "help the team". We already have 4 freshman coming in. David Noel, Reyshawn Terry, and especially Quentin Thomas are going to have to step up in a huge way.

At least we have the 2004-2005 season to look back on....
Comments:
Well, as a huge fan, here is what I see optimistically: David Noel can play 'd' as everyone knows. He can score, but I doubt he can put up really big numbers if a defense is trying to stop him. He scores big when there are other scorers on the floor. Reyshawn, I think is going to emerge as a superstar. He has shown that he can d-up with the best of them. I think he was a big time scorer in high school, and I am betting that he is going to have a solid average. He could score big early on, until his secret is out. Quentin will come into his own. I hope he stops trying to be like Ray, and finds his own pace. Everybody wants Wes Miller to do well, I'm just not sure he is quick enough day in and day out for the ACC. Grant and Byron , if they can stay healthy should be able to give some minutes underneath - wouldn't it be great if either of them broke out... Tyler seems to be the one we are looking to carry things, but I'd be cautious. We won't be deep early on, but if we can win some games early, we should get 20 wins. I feel sacreligious saying it, but I think 4th or 3rd is within reach...
