UNC Stat of the Day:

Roy Williams Comments on Kansas Self-Report
Today Roy Williams commented on the Kansas Self-Report. The verdict: Williams "only spoke to one alumnus about giving graduation 'gifts' to seniors" and referred the alumnus to the Kansas Compliance committee. More pertinent quotes:

"I did not know the rule that `once you are a student-athlete, you are a student-athlete until death.'

Kansas never gained a recruiting or competitive advantage - the students had completed their eligibility and it was seen as a `graduation gift.' I have never promised anything to a prospective student-athlete, including playing time."

First the media hounds Roy because he "can't win the big one" and after he does, they jump all over an opportunity to paint him in a negative light by blowing this story way out of proportion.
Comments:
I have zero respect for Roy Williams. Has everyone forgotten how former Coach Brad Daughtery was shown the door when he tried to discipline the infamous McCants?
McCants reportedly told Daughtery that if he was benched, the UNC alumni would fire him. Turns out the young man (while being anything but a team player) was indeed a prophet.

Didn't take Roy long to cash in his integrity and leave Kansas to step back the Dean dome. Doesn't say much for any respect due a formerm player that Roy coached under his tenure with Dean Smith does it?

Roy is no better than a lot of his other highly paid counter parts. "Win at all costs". Has everyone forgotten how Kentucky's new coach skipped out of town amid NCAA violations at UMASS? I guess Kentucky places more value on final four apperances than overall program integrity.

Anyone who played the game when it still was a game (team work and execution vs. helter skelter chuck and run) would be hard pressed to call last night's event a game.

The ethics and presitge assoicated with UNC basketball under Dean Smith died a long time ago. When next season rolls around watch how his players are talking amongst themselves and looking up into the stands during time outs.

Parting shot: Please ask the media to recant their praise for the four players who decided to return for thier last year. Only Hansbourgh's were made on a desire to graduate and reach another final four. The other three intially declared for the NBA and came back after their evaluations indicated they needed another season to be ready for the NBA draft. What a better place than UNC to return to for this. After all, it's now about "winning at all costs" and ESPN/Clark Kellogg high-lights. Team work and education are no longer a part of Roy's resume.
