Somebody sent me a play by play of the Duke-Wake game this year that Duke won by 22 and they had the starters in and were shooting 3 pointers--Duke took a time-out with less than 2 minutes in the game, up by 20, left all its starters in and then had a McRoberts dunk and a Paulus 3-pointer in the last seconds:

3:28 35-53 Josh McRoberts made Free Throw.
3:16 Ishmael Smith missed Two Point Layup. 35-53
3:16 35-53 Josh McRoberts Defensive Rebound.
2:59 35-55 Josh McRoberts made Two Point Dunk Shot.
2:53 Wake Forest Full Timeout. 35-55
2:44 Ishmael Smith made Two Point Layup. 37-55
2:10 37-57 David McClure made Two Point Jumper.
1:55 37-57 Foul on David McClure
1:55 37-57 Duke Full Timeout.
1:55 Ishmael Smith made Free Throw. 38-57
1:55 Ishmael Smith missed Free Throw. 38-57
1:55 38-57 Duke Defensive Rebound.
1:24 L.D. Williams missed Three Point Jumper. 38-57
1:24 38-57 Gerald Henderson Defensive Rebound.
0:49 38-59 Josh McRoberts made Two Point Dunk Shot.

0:08 38-62 Greg Paulus made Three Point Jumper.
0:05 Ishmael Smith missed Two Point Layup. 38-62
0:05 Ishmael Smith Offensive Rebound. 38-62
0:04 Ishmael Smith made Two Point Layup. 40-62

Why was Tyler shooting FTs with 18 secs to go. UNC was up by 12. Looks like a coaching misque.

He would not be wearing a disguise to cover the black eyes if ol'Roy had given him some well earned recognition and replaced him with Danny Green (85+% FT) when Frasor was fouled with 19 sec left.

S. Johnson (played a total of 5 mins in 06-07) would not have had the opportunity to swat the ball from Hansbrough leading to the collision with Henderson. ???

Henderson was deliberate in throwing a full power forearm to take Hansbrough out. This isn’t the first time that a Duke player has lashed out after the game has been (supposedly) decided. Duke, under Krzyzewski, indeed has a history of such behavior, especially against UNC. Most UNC fans remember the “Bloody Montross” incident. In the game in Durham last year, Hansbrough was hit in the head with 14 seconds left. And Kentucky fans remember the "Laitner Stomp". To call Henderson's latest blow a flagrant foul is being generous. The officials did the minimum they could do by ejecting Henderson and suspending him from the next game.

And did Henderson apologize? No he just walked away (with no class) after Hansbrough hit the deck.

What game was Billy Packer and Dick (Duke-Can-Do-No-Wrong) Vitale watching? These Duke apologists were so transparent in their efforts to minimize Duke's culpability. They even praised Krzyzewski when he questioned why regular players like Hansbrough were on the floor with less than 20 seconds remaining in a 12-point game. “The game was over before that,” he said. “That’s unfortunate that those people were in the game in that way." WHAT? It was Krzyzewski who called timeout with 50 seconds left and his team down by 13. He didn't think it was walk-on time at that point!

The ACC is known as a conference where any team can stage a remarkable comeback. Remember March 6, 1975? Wake Forest led UNC 90-82 with 54 seconds left. UNC won that game. How about Bobby Jones’ steal and lay-up in 1974 to beat Duke, or UNC’s 21-point comeback win against Florida State in 1993? Can you remember a game where UNC was down 8 points with 17 seconds on the clock, and UNC still won? I do, it was March 2, 1974 against Duke. The Sporting News calls it the most remarkable comeback in college basketball history. Maybe Krzyzewski thought this game was over, but Williams knows best: you never under estimate the Devil(s).

Hell, after the last two losses UNC was criticized for not being tough enough. The likes of Packer and Vitale blamed the Maryland loss on UNC not playing the full forty minutes. So, just who was on the floor? For UNC: Hansbrough, Danny Green (10 minutes), Deon Thompson (13), Bobby Frasor (9), and senior walk-on Dewey Burke (3). For Duke: Henderson, Jon Scheyer (35 minutes), DeMarcus Nelson (35), Marty Pocius (3), and walk-on Steve Johnson (1). Paulus would have been in there I’m sure, except he had just fouled out.

Roy Williams said it best, “ . . .both teams had ‘em in. … In fact, we had a substitute (waiting to check in) if you want to go back and look at that. If you go back and look Michael Copeland was sitting up at the (scorer’s table) because I was trying to get Tyler out of the game. It's not my fault that Tyler got the offensive rebound and somebody else missed the sucker."

You're right coach . . . 'nuff said.

Ol'Roy is culpable in not protecting Hansbrough - he should have given him some well earned recognition and replaced him when Frasor was fouled with 19 secs left. So what if Copelanbd was at the table. Why didn't he replace Hansbrough after Frasor's 1st FT attempt? Snafu?
