News and game summaries from a life-long North Carolina Basketball fan(atic)

UNC Stat of the Day:

UNC 38, Boston College 23 (HALFTIME)
The name of the game for the first half has been defense. We're playing team defense unlike we have in several games. BC's two best players, Dudley and Reese, are 2-15 from the field. I still don't get why Dudley beat out Hansbrough (or even Al Thornton) for player of the year. He has done nothing in the last few games and perhaps worst of all, he is a FLOPPER! That's right, he spent about as much time on the floor as he did standing up in the first half. Unfortunately, the refs called a couple of fouls when he flopped.

Offensively we are doing good, but not great shooting 50% from the floor. Hansbrough only has 3 points. He's playing much more aggressive than against FSU, but he hasn't many opportunities. If we can keep up our defensive pressure and rebound margin (currently 10 more than BC), I think we are in good shape.

First half notes:

3:45. 30-18. We are letting them back into the game.
5:22. 30-14. These refs have just been lousy. Oats pushed Ginyard down on the ground and Ginyard got called for the foul.
6:45. 27-11. We are really taking it to BC! Hit 10 of our last 13.
8:03. 23-11. Both teams are heating up and we are really starting to get our transition going.
12:08. 15-5. Bobby Frasor with a 3 to go up by 10!
15:21. 6-3. Refs missed an intentional foul by Reece on Lawson to prevent a fast break layup.
15:43. 4-3. No one will say Hansbrough isn't playing aggressive this game. He has been a monster so far though he is 0-2. We've missed a few shots which has kept the score down (2-7 from the field). The refs have already made a couple of questionable calls (on both ends).
Comments:
The Heels smacked Dudley around, all over the court. Both Green and Hansbrough hit in the mouth in the last 6 minutes. Dudley didn't seem to like it, but I did.

NCAA Rules define striking an opponent as a combative confrontation and more specifically "fighting." Everyone in TV Land saw Psycho's backhanded slap to Dudley's mouth.

The ball was in play and Tyler should have been assessed a flagrant personal foul, ejected, and suspended from the ACC Championship game with NCST!

Another biased ACC ref(s) no-call in UNC's favor. Kind of curious; Les Jones reffed this and the Duke-UNC game. (?) Something smells on Tobacco Road. $$$$$

Dear Duke fan,
Two words for you: incidental contact. The two incidents aren't even comparable. It is not even close to being on the level of Henderson's foul. Rice wasn't charged with an obvious intentional foul against Lawson to save a sure layup. You don't see me complaining about that.

BTW, at some point Hansbrough has to fight back. He got whacked right on the face during the game not to mention getting mugged down low all game long. How much does he have to take a beating before fighting back? Would you happily take all of that punishment with a smile on your face?

Dookies just cannot get over the fact that their teams sucks and is made up of the usual whinners but this year at least one goon.

Get use to it.
