UNC Stat of the Day:

UNC 71, Boston College 56
UNC led most of the way against BC and proved to be too much down the stretch. This will be Carolina's first ACC championship game appearance since 2001. Brandan Wright was silky smooth and efficient on his way to 20 points on 10/12 shooting and at least 4 dunks. I wonder what his stats would look like if he took 20 shots a game? Hansbrough had 9 points and played much more aggressively, but the mask still seems to be affecting him on the offensive end.

While Roy is still playing 11 players more than 5 minutes, the starters are playing more. Hansbrough, Wright and Lawson all played more than 30 minutes.

Next up is either State or Virginia Tech. I'm mixed on which one I'd rather see. I'd like to see Virginia Tech because it would give us a chance to avenge their regular season sweep of us. I'd like to see State because I think they'd be a little easier for us, especially playing 4 straight games with a short bench.

Second half notes:
0.37. 71-56. Roy clears the bench. Game over!
2:40. 69-56. Wes Miller with a steal on Reese which turned into an easy basket for UNC.
3:47. 67-54. BC made 2 straight 3s. They aren't out of it yet.
5:11. 64-48. Roy is really getting after the team. He yelled "Everybody wake up"
7:55. 62-44. For every run BC makes, UNC counters.
11:46. 55-41. Terry nails a 3 and Wright gets another fast break dunk to stop the BC run.
12:54. 50-41. BC goes zone, slows it down, makes some shots, and that's how a 20 point lead can get down to 9 in 3 minutes.
16:55. 46-28. 4 subs in for UNC.
19:13. 40-23. UNC starts with an easy transition dunk for Wright.

Re: 'Second half notes:

Roy is a good student - seems he took Coach K's counseling about protecting the players!

On 3/4, Roy said the game wasn't over and he couldn't take his starters out with 19 secs left in the Duke game because he was only up by 12 points and Duke's starters were still in the game. Was 3 points the price for a player's bloody nose a week ago.

UNC coach Roy Williams was thrilled that Hansbrough asserted himself on the glass against BC, but had serious concerns over what happened on the other end. "You can look at [Hansbrough's] stats over the course of the year and until these last two games he always shoots a great percentage," Williams said. "That mask is bothering him a great deal, and it still bothers me because he's the victim and no one is worried about him."

Re: Was 3 points the price for a player's bloody nose a week ago.

How many times does it have to be reported that Copeland was at the scorers table getting ready to come in?

Also, I don't care if Hansbrough was in with a 30 point lead, does that give someone the right to bloody a player's nose? As if it is Roy's fault.

The defensive effort is improving with each game.

Re Copeland coming in? Baloney - Roy's cover your as... Tyler could have come out when Frasor made his 1st FT with 19 secs left in the game. (Did Roy fear that Duke would score 13 points in 19 secs?) The ref should have also blown the whistle when a UNC player fouled the Duke player who had rebounded Tyler's missed FT; that may have prevented the colision.

Roy knows that tough guy Bill Lambeer was always the NBA's perennial "victim."

sportingnews.com quotes Tyler's father: "... we had a 6-9, 245-pound kid who could really shove people around."

Roy knows the refs are worried about Tyler as he is getting some sympathy no calls; today, he flagrantly backhanded J Dudley (ACC Player of the Year) in the mouth - no call.

Tyler had a Tech Foul called on him in the the NC State game for taking a closed fist swing at an opponent. Per NCAA Rules that was a "combative confrontation - fighting" - he should have had a flagrant personal foul, ejection from the game, and a one game suspension (which would have been the 1st Duke game).

Isn't unbiased refereeing great?

Duke runs up the score every game they have a chance to. Just look at the Wake box score and play by play against Duke earlier this year. Nobody is buying it. This incident has been a severe black eye for Duke University and Coach K. The Duke Chronicle took a poll of its readers, presumably Duke fans and 50% of them even said Henderson should have been suspended.
