UNC Stat of the Day:

Welcome to the UNC Bandwagon
In a recent Harris Poll, UNC was voted the most popular team in the nation! Surprisingly, Duke had been the top team for the past 4 years. Now they are #2. With the Gerald Henderson fiasco, they are lucky not to be lower. There is always next year ;-)

Everyone, welcome to the UNC Bandwagon!

Thanks for the tip Chuck K.
Comments:
March Madness

UNC has a pretty descent team and does not need this poll to add to its stature. The Harris Poll had a total of a mere 565 college basketball fans participate (i.e. approx 22 per top 25 school!).

Out of a population of approximately 300 million people, the survey sample included 2,223 adults and only 24% of them (565) follow college basketball! The published Harris Report also indicates that they have not provided a margin-of-error for the stats (i.e. the results are statistically insignificant.)

Flipside: UNC basketball hurts the economy more than any Div I school - 41% of people believe that the NCAA Tournament causes productivity at work to suffer. (published by Deloitte & Touche USA LLP - United States)

Perspective: Pick-your poll - FoxSports “College Basketball Fan Power Poll”:

UNC and Kansas are ranked #17 and #18 respectively in this fan poll. The Fan’s Top Ten?: (1) Memphis, (2) Florida, (3) Pittsburgh, (4) UCLA, (5) Tennessee, (6) Texas, (7) Georgetown, (8) Connecticut, (9) Duke, and (10) Villanova. (note CT didn't even make the tournament)
(see msn.foxsports.com)

(re GH - the refs missed a good game)

I'm sorry, but any fan poll that has Memphis #1 is automatically suspect. At least the Harris Poll is fairly consistent year to year.
