UNC Stat of the Day:
Who is that masked man? Posted by Robbie Allen @ 3/09/2007 03:19:00 PM
Comments:
"...knows how to get fouled. … defenders have two choices: foul him or stand aside." and "... a 6-9, 245-pound kid who could really shove people around." Gene Habsbrough 11-2006
"... a rugged, low-post bruiser … ... is a pension for drawing contact …
Predicted, 11-09-06 tarheelblue.com UNC Official Athletic Site: " ... it's a little disconcerting to imagine a Hansbrough who isn't uptight … He should like people paying homage to him with a Jason mask. You check just to make sure he's not kidding. Hansbrough does not smile. Not even a little bit."
Check ABC Chanl 11's reverse angle video and the refs calls.
Sequence of events -
1. Tyler misses FT ... 2. Duke player rebounds Tyler's missed FT ... 3. UNC player fouls Duke rebounder by going over his back to knock the ball loose ... 4. Ball is knocked to Tyler who is aggressively charging the basket ... 5. Duke's Johnson strips Tyler of the ball while Gerald leaps and swings at the ball - striking Tyler ... 6. Ref under the basket (Black man - Luckie?) has a clear, unobstructed view of the entire sequence of events, blows whistle and stops play but makes no call on UNC or Duke ... 2nd ref (Jones?) approaches and grabs Luckie's arm ... Roy enters court and talks to the refs ... 2nd ref (Jones?) signals an intentional foul ... basket ref (Luckie?) then signals intentional foul [Notes (see NCAA Rule Book): (1) neither ref signals an intentional foul: excessive contact; (2) Jones did not have the authority to make the call, that was Luckie's resp.] ... Roy leaves the court without personally cking on Tyler ... 3rd ref (Hess) escorts Tyler off the court.
Ref SNAFU?
Curious: Jones also reffed the ACC Tournament victories againsr FL State and BC (J. Dudley was flagrantly fouled by Tyler - no call) and the win over OH State on 11/29/06 (fouls UNC 13 – OH ST 23); he did not ref any games that UNC lost. Bias(?)
