UNC Stat of the Day:

UNC 78, Duke 89
Boxscore | Recap | Game Flow

We played very well for the first 7 minutes of the game, but after that Duke got hot from 3 point range and never trailed again. Tyler Hansbrough played his butt off. He is the only reason the game was close. There was much talk about Quentin starting in place of the injured Ty Lawson, but Q played well. I was impressed. He looked like a different player than the one that played so poorly against Clemson. Don't get me wrong, he's no Ty. He did have 6 turnovers and he doesn't run the offense nearly as well, but I think he played to the best of his ability and didn't negatively impact us as much as in the past.

I hate to pin a loss on one or two people, but Wayne Ellington and Danny Green were no ops for us on the floor. When your "sharp" shooters are shooting so poorly, it will be hard to beat the #2 team in the country. Wayne and Danny really let the team down. Tyler stepped up. Deon stepped up. Marcus stepped up. Quentin stepped up. Wayne and Danny did not. We scored at will inside and even did a decent job of penetrating. Our outside shooting was non-existent.

I know Wayne had a couple go in and out of the hoop, but it has always been like that with him. At what point does that sweet stroke and "almost in" shots start going in consistently?

Let's hope we are at full strength when we travel to Cameron in a few weeks. And lets hope Wayne and/or Danny are having a good day.

Comments:
I dont agree with you completely about Quentin...i think he really hurt us in the first half with his poor decisions..but then played a solid second half...as far as wayne goes...what is going on with him? If he made half of the shots he missed we could have been right there in the end? I said it at the beginning of the year and ill stick with it...we dont win a national championship unless we can start knocking down more outside shots...its a real bummer we didnt have lawson this game...that was hard to watch with him on the bench

No Ty = not opening up offense for high percentage shots.

That made our shot percentage go down and their defense look good.

Duke outplayed UNC last night and deserved the win. I have a feeling it'll be a different game next time around.

Yes it was a loss and to Dook no less neither of which are very good. Depending on what the players learned from this it could be the positive turning point for this season.

Q played very well. He surely was not the cause of the loss. Yes he did look like a different player. What he finally did was drive to the basket. He has needed to do this all along. No he is not Ty. No one is. What this does tell me is if Ty gets into foul trouble going forward Q can and will step up. In a way I hope Ty sits out the next game too; 1) to give his ankle time to fully recover 2) to continue the development of Q.

I have a hard time dealing with Packer but he was correct in the offense needed to go through Tyler. Had that have happened more often I believe the outcome would have been different.

What I think contributed to this loss were the shooting woes of Danny and Wayne and maybe even more the failure of the players to recognize what Dook was doing or could do. I am sure the coaching staff gave the players a game plan, which would have ended in a victory. I just think emotions got the best of the players.

Finally I have been disappointed in the development of Graves.

If Dook is the number 2 team in the nation, the Heels have a great opportunity to win the national title. I think no one would disagree that had Ty played the outcome would have been a lot different.
