UNC Stat of the Day:

UNC 89, Wake Forest 92
Boxscore | Recap

0-2 in conference play. That's where we sit after another humbling loss. Wake Forest came in ranked #4 in the nation. They matched our aggressiveness and talent level. The big difference in the game was shooting. We shot a season low 35% from the field. We shot 33% in the first half and went 0-9 to start the second half. You aren't going to beat anyone playing like that.

No one on our side had a good game except Danny Green who has turned out to be one of our most consistent players. I'm not exactly sure why we kept trying to feed Wayne Ellington at the end of the game when he hadn't hit anything all night. Granted, Wayne knocked down two threes in the final couple of minutes so that helped, but it was too little too late. It is frustrating to see players like Jeff Teague from Wake or Tyrese Rice from BC be so prolific from outside. Wayne Ellington is supposed to be in that same class, but he's been ineffective from outside for much of the year. Wayne better be happy he didn't leave early for the NBA or he'd be sitting the sidelines at NBDL games. If the NBA Draft were today, there is no way he'd go in the first two rounds.

Ty Lawson had perhaps his worst game of the year. I know I was lobbying for him early on as the best point guard in the nation, but now that he's been outplayed by 2 ACC point guards, I can't exactly make that claim anymore. Very disappointing.

This gamed looked eerily similar to the BC game. You'd hardly think we were a run and gun kind of team. Things got so bad Roy made the team play zone defense toward the end of the game because we couldn't get stops (Roy much prefers to play man).

Our free throws hurt us again.

Shooting in general just sucked. How many McDonald's All-American's do we have and the best we can do is 35%?? We should do better than that if we did nothing but shoot three pointers all game. This is the exact same issue we had last year. Unless we are running and gunning, we aren't a very good offensive team. We just don't have the shooters.

I thought the officiating sucked too. Totally uneven from the first-half to second-half. I thought they called a lot of ticky-tack calls against us.

I'm in a bad mood now so I'm going to bed....

Ok, I'm back. I forgot to mention that we had to call 2 timeouts because we couldn't get the stinking ball inbounds! I don't think that's happened all year and it happened twice tonight. I don't know what is going on with the team...

Your analysis is comforting.. what a buzzkill.

yeah.. our defence had the toughness of middle schoolers. Coach Roy definately needs to regather and find out whats up.

2009 is not being very kinda to the Tarheels. It is almost like we are a totally different team out there.

I think you summed it up perfectly. Very frustrating. They are constantly getting beat off the dribble. They need to be tougher and match the other teams aggressiveness because they know they are going to get every teams best shot. I cant describe how disappointed I am right now.

Graves is getting too many minutes thats why we are loosing

We also panicked. Frankly, Roy's job is to keep us from panicking. It's also to notice that, hey, we're mainly getting beat by one guy. How about a double team on Teague on the inbounds, so he's not shooting free throws at the end?

And I hate to criticize our players, but Ellington is exactly the same player he's been since he got to Carolina. His stroke is gorgeous, but he's ineffective when not hot, and he's only hot 1 game in 3 or 4. I agree that the idea of him entering the draft was a little ridiculous.

Ok. Im going to put it like this. We do not play good defense. Look at the games we have won. When we win and score in the uper 90's and 100's the opponent are scoring in the 80's . That's not good defense. Roy needs to learn how to run a zone sometimes. We can out run every team in America. Sometimes you have to call a zone and make the other teams shoot the ball. But if we Dont know how to run the zone it wont be effective. Another thing i dont think anybody has looked at, Roy is a HELL of a Recruiter but he IS NOT A GOOD COACH !! There have been several games that we lost last year that he was Just out coached. We just need to get focused and step up to the plate when its game time. EVERYBODY Steps up their game when they play us, We need to do the same!!WE CAN NOT LOOSE ANYMORE ACC GAMES !!!

This group reminds me of 93 or 94 when we came off a national championship and only lost George Lynch to graduation. 3 future pros joined the team Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, and Jeff McInnis. The bottom line was substraction by addition. No spirit, no defense, and no chemistry.

Wake Forrest was probably going to happen, but BC was an earthquake. Can Roy find some kind of spark in these guys?
